Your Code of Ethics is Your Professional Compass: Your Responsibilities with Clients

On Demand Recording

Target Audience: Social Workers | Content Level: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, we hosted a 90-minute interactive webinar about ethics and risk management for social workers. We had an overwhelming response of more than 3,200 mental health professionals. You can now view the recording of this webinar on demand at your leisure.

Risk management in social work is like putting the profession’s Code of Ethics into action. You need a compass for your career, and your Code of Ethics serves as both that compass and an essential risk management mitigation tool.

This webinar reviewed ethical responsibilities with clients through a risk management lens. Failing to adhere to these responsibilities could jeopardize your career and professional and personal future. The workshop presenters provided critical recommendations to help social workers mitigate potential risks and maintain a healthy social work career.

Learning Objectives

After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Schedule a periodic review of their informed consent protocol to identify significant risk areas and, if needed, make the changes to comply with the ethical standards of the social work profession.
  2. Evaluate annually the scope of their professional competence, identifying their areas of expertise and those in which additional training or experience is needed.
  3. Plan a periodic review of their professional boundaries guidelines, particularly regarding sexual relationships, physical contact, and sexual harassment. Even minor deviations in these areas could lead to significant misconduct.
